UK TV

Watching UK TV when you’re away from home

This guide is for people from the UK who are on holiday or away for a while and want their usual TV. Each service sets its own rules, so each section below quotes the service. Stealthy PRO’s United Kingdom location makes your browser appear in the UK.

Away from the UK? Pick United Kingdom in Stealthy PRO and open your UK TV services in your browser.

Start the 3-day free trial

$4.99 a month billed yearly, or $9.99 month to month. Start the trial with a card or PayPal; after 3 days it becomes the plan you picked unless you cancel first. Billed in US dollars.

How it works

Pick UK under Location in Stealthy and open the service in your browser. Already have PRO? If the panel shows a note, choose Switch to United Kingdom: it picks UK and reloads the page. On the free location with no saved login, the note offers a 3-day free trial instead. Choose Not now to hide it for 30 days; it appears at most 3 times in 30 days.

Streaming services set their own rules and may refuse a connection at any time.

BBC iPlayer

You need a TV Licence to watch iPlayer, and TV Licensing and the BBC have their own rules about watching abroad. Read them in BBC iPlayer when you’re away from the UK.

ITVX

ITV says ITVX can only be used in the UK. Its rules, Premium downloads and a checklist are in ITVX when you’re away from the UK.

Channel 4 abroad

Channel 4 answers this in two places, with slightly different lists of places. Here are both, in its own words.

No, programming is only available in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man.

Nor can you watch content via a UK SIM while overseas. Rights agreements mean that our service is only available in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, (although not for all programmes in ROI).

However, you can download programmes to watch whilst overseas on iOS and Android devices.

No, you can only download an available programme whilst in the UK. If you leave the UK when you are downloading a programme, it will move into a paused state. When you return to the UK and connect to Wi-Fi, you will need to manually un-pause it, in order to re-start the download.

Another Channel 4 answer says:

Channel 4 streaming is only available in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

In our check on 12 October 2026, an on-demand Channel 4 programme played on PRO’s United Kingdom location, and Channel 4’s own adverts played with Block ads and trackers on.

My5 abroad

Outside the UK, Channel 5’s player shows:

It looks like you are trying to access 5 app from outside the UK. 5 app is currently only accessible from within the UK. Error code: MY5-WEB-1111

In our check on 12 October 2026, Channel 5’s live channel played on PRO’s United Kingdom location. It asked for a free 5 account.

U (UKTV Play)

In our check on 12 October 2026, U didn’t play on PRO’s United Kingdom location. It showed:

Sorry, currently our video library can only be watched from within the UK.

Accounts

In our check, BBC iPlayer and Channel 5 asked us to sign in with a free account, ITVX used an existing ITVX account, and Channel 4 played without signing in. None of the services asked for a phone number, ID or a card in our check.

Apps and TVs

The TV apps on your phone don’t use the browser extension. Use PRO’s VPN with uk.stealthy.co (set it up). TVs connect through a router (Help).

If a service won’t play

  1. Check Stealthy is on and on UK.
  2. Check the panel doesn’t say your PRO login failed.
  3. Reload the page.
  4. Clear the service’s cookies and sign in again (Help).
